LAKE WALES, FL –The
LWHS Alumni Association will hold its third Teachers Hall of Fame induction
ceremony at the Lake Wales Country Club on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, with a
social hour at 5:00 pm and dinner at 6 pm.
The keynote speaker will be Ruth Teets, Polk County’s
2009 Teacher of the Year.
The LWHS Teachers Hall of
Fame honors extraordinary teachers who made a significant difference in the
lives of their students. The four
teachers honored this year are:
BILL CREWS
BERTA PROCTOR
ANNE WALDROP
These teachers were selected
from the nominations submitted by alumni on the website www.lwhsalumniassn.org because they
upheld exemplary standards of behavior and ethics, exhibited leadership, were
enthusiastic about teaching and learning, demonstrated competency in their
subject matter, worked well with colleagues and administrators, and
consistently sought to encourage, inspire and motivate students toward greater
accomplishments.
This event is to honor all past and present Lake Wales’
teachers and administrators, including elementary, middle and high school, as difference
makers! To do that, the banquet
is being underwritten by local businesses and financial institutions, so all
Lake Wales’ retired and current educators are invited to attend free of charge. The general public is also invited to attend
and encouraged to join us in celebrating our teachers. Tickets for the general public are $20. Both the free tickets for Lake Wales’
educators and the $20 tickets for the general public may be obtained at the LW
Charter Schools office at 151 East
Central Avenue, Lake Wales.
Please act quickly as seating is
limited!

The Lake Wales High School Teacher Hall of Fame was created in 2006 by the LWHS Alumni Association as a way to honor teachers. Planning is underway for the 2009 event and all LWHS alumni are encouraged to submit the name of a favorite teacher by emailing us. Be sure to nominate that special teacher now! Nominees from prior years will not be included automatically – if your favorite teacher hasn't yet been inducted, you should nominate that teacher again. Nominations must be for former teachers of Lake Wales High School who are now retired or deceased. Please email your nomination to us but be sure to include your name, your class year, the teacher you are nominating, and the reason why this teacher should be in our Teachers Hall of Fame. The deadline for accepting nominations is August 15.
2006 inductees were Hazel Alexander, Tom Bishop, Nancy Waters, and Linda Cloud.
2007 inductees were Otto Kraushaar, Colleen Lowry, Roger Campbell, and Wanda Hoaglin.
The twelve nominees who receive the highest number of votes through the alumni association website will be this year's candidates. The Selection Committee ultimately will choose four inductees from this list. The 2009 Teachers Hall of Fame event will be held at the LW Country Club on October 27, 2009. Information regarding the event will be posted on the website and published in area newspapers as the time approaches.
